¶ Why do we use hand signals?
Have you ever been in a meeting where the same one or two people are the only ones talking? It is not the case that the other participants have nothing to say, rather the more dominant people draw all the attention to themselves.
Within Extinction Rebellion we find it important that everyone has the opportunity to speak during a meeting, because everyone's knowledge and expertise is valuable. To make sure that everyone has the space to share their thoughts, we use handsignals.
¶ How do the hand signals work?
Do you have something to say? Then raise your finger. The facilitator will give you the opportunity to talk. Has anyone else already raised their finger ? Then raise two fingers and you'll be second in line. There are also some other hand signals, for example to indicate that you want to react immediately or have a technical point (for video calls: I can't hear you!).
