By default, pages on the wiki are public: they can be viewed by anyone with an internet connection. To view public pages, people don't need an account on the wiki and don't need to be given any access.
Private pages are only visible to people within a group. To view the private pages of a group, people need an account on the wiki and need to be given access.
Administrators of the wiki can view all pages, including private pages. There are only a few administrators and they are trusted.
You should share information in a private page if you and your group think there are risks with having that information publicly available to police, intelligence agencies, fascists, or anyone else who wants to repress our movement.
The wiki is not secure enough for organising actions or other highly sensitive information, even if information is stored in private pages. For this type of information use the XR NL Cryptpad. See what application to use for what information.
If you and your group think the risks are negligible, you shouldn't make your page private, because there are benefits to having information publicly accessible: many more people can find that information and learn from it.
To view private pages, request access.
You can make a page private to your group by including /prive/
in the URL path of the page.
For example, the main public page of XR Amersfoort is https://wiki.extinctionrebellion.nl/en/groepen/lokaal/amersfoort. A private page that is only visible by people in XR Amersfoort could be https://wiki.extinctionrebellion.nl/en/groepen/lokaal/amersfoort/prive/voorbeeld.
Right now everyone with access to view the private pages in a group can also edit the pages in that group, and vice versa.
For example, if someone is given access to view a private page of XR Amsersfoort, they can also edit all pages of XR Amersfoort. If you don't want to have the same people being able to view private pages and edit pages of your group, contact us.
