A great deal of your digital information is stored on your devices: phone, computer, tablet... If someone gets physical access to your device they could get access to all your information, even if your device has a password, as they could extract it from the hardware disk where your information is stored. This is a real risk, as activist’s devices get commonly seized at protests, and (less frequently) at raids.
Therefore, we strongly recommend that you encrypt the information on your devices. If your information is encrypted, even if someone gets hold of your device, they won’t be able to access your information. In this section we explain how you can encrypt your information.
If you’d like to get a basic understanding of encryption, you can read the section how encryption works.
